Abstract: This essay relates to study which investigates wheter social
network sites may be considered „third place“, where young people find an
unrestricted space for self-expression and reflection apart from formal
enviroments and parental control, and whether the perception and adoption of
such services varies among different cultural communities.
The study was written by Gerit Götzenbrucker and Margarita
Marie Köhl, professors from University of Vienna, and was published in journal Media Culture & Society in April
2014.
