This essay analyzes the work of Adrienne Shaw: Do you identify as a gamer? Gender, race, sexuality, and gamer identity, which she publicized in 2011. The main purpose of this essay is to aim on the main ideas of Shaw´s work and put them in wider context. Shaw´s text describes the reasons, why same people don´t want to identify themselves as gamers. This text also converts with the ideas of Shaw´s work – author argues, that the reason, why some people don´t want to identify as gamers, isn´t a matter of “social categorizing” but of personal "appetence".
