ABSTRAKT
Slouží emotikony a
emodži v počítačem zprostředkované komunikaci jako neverbální „berličky“, které
mají za úkol kompenzovat absenci neverbální dimenze? Na tuto otázku se snaží
odpovědět dvě práce, které zde shrnujeme – Emoticon Style: Interpreting
Differences in Emoticons Across Cultures výzkumníků kolem Jaram Parkové a
závěrečná práce Emily McIntyreové s názvem From Cave Paintings to Shakespeare
and Back Again: What Are Emoji and Should I Be Afraid?. Obě práce zkoumají
užívání emotikonů, resp. emodži na sociální síti Twitter a snaží se odhalit
kontext sdělení obsahujících tyto symboly a motivaci uživatelů k jejich
používání. Práce je doplněna o výsledky stručného kvantitativního výzkumu
založeného na poznatcích z výše uvedených prací a zamyšlení nad možnou tvorbou
kolektivního idiolektu.
ABSTRACT
Are emoticons and
emoji used in computer mediated communication as nonverbal cues intended to
compensate for the absence of nonverbal dimension in internet communication?
This paper offers a summary of two researches dealing with this topic –
Emoticon Style: Interpreting Differences in Emoticons Across Cultures by Jaram Park
et al., and From Cave Paintings to Shakespeare and Back Again: What Are Emoji
and Should I Be Afraid? by Emily McIntyre. Both works examine the use of
emoticons and emoji, respectively, on Twitter to identify the context where the
symbols are used and the motivation of users to use them. The paper is then
accompanied by a brief quantitative research based on the findings of the
above-mentioned works and a reflection on a possible creation of a collective
idiolect.
