Současné poznatky z výzkumu digital divide: kdo, kdy a proč používá Internet?

Abstract

This essay describes actual findings in digital divide studies. Following statements are based on two texts published in the New Media & Society – A. J. A. M. van Deursen’s and J. A. G. M. van Dijk’s The digital divide shifts to differences in usage and Modeling the second-level digital divide: A five-country study of social differences in Internet use written by M. Büchi, N. Just and M. Latzer. The first one is about research focused on Dutch population. At the end, there is a call for international study of the same phenomenon (i.e. who use the Internet, when and why). The second text answers that and begins like a five-country study. For the optimal model of digital divide, it operates only with three countries at the end (USA, UK and New Zealand). The main conclusion of both texts is that even the Internet is in broader use, it doesn’t close the gap between socio-demographic groups. Moreover, the Internet still reflects the differences between its users and in some cases, it could be said, that the Internet stimulates these differences.

Je založena na rešerši dvou textů, které vyšly v periodiku New Media & Society – The digital divide shifts to differences in usage (Digitální rozdělení vede k rozdílům v použití) od A. J. A. M. van Deursena a J. A. G. M. van Dijka a Modeling the second-level digital divide: A five-country study of social differences in Internet use (Modelování druhé úrovně digitálního rozdělení: studie o sociálních rozdílech v používání Internetu napříč pěti zeměmi) od M. Büchi, N. Justové a M. Latzera. V závěru autoři vyzývají k tomu, aby se provedl i mezinárodní výzkum tohoto chování (tedy toho kdo, kdy a proč používá Internet).
